Contributions – Rahula Old Prefects’ Association (ROPA)

Our Ongoing Contributions and Projects…

These are some of our ongoing projects and contributions to Rahula College. You can get details about past projects and contributions from Our Timeline section.

Rahula College Affinity Credit Card Programme

This is one of our most important projects to date. A custom-designed VISA credit card exclusively tailored for Old Rahulians, enabling them to proudly display their school spirit and simultaneously support Rahula College. Yes, that’s right. This isn’t just a fancy design, this programme contributes to a fund that directly support our mother Rahula. A small percentage of amount from each and every purchase Affinity Card holders make and also a portion of annual fees will contributed to this fund (fund contributions will not be borne by the card holders, instead be absorbed by the bank).

The Granum Award and Scholarship

Presented at every Abhisheka (Rahula College Prefects’ Oath ceremony) since 2016, this award goes to the Most Outstanding Senior Prefect of the previous year. We review applicants’ academic, non-academic achivements, get recommendations from Master in Charge of Board of Prefects, get recommendations from the Executive Prefect Board before putting the applicants through a professional level interview process, which will also be a practice for the interviews they might face in their lives.

We created this scholarship to motivate our youngsters and prepare them for the future. Previous Granum Award winners are as follows,

  • Thaveesha Dissanayake (2015)
  • Rivindu Chiranjith (2017)
  • Saranga Srimal (2018)
  • Dinitha Kithulgoda (2019)
  • Pasindu Denuwan (2020)
  • Amiru Munasinghe (2021)
  • Manitha Jayawardhana (2022)

Prefect Badges and Certificates

Since 2017, ROPA has been providing the Certificates and Badges for Rahula prefects. We accepted this responsibility to maintain the standard of Rahula Prefect certificates and Prefect Badges and ease the financial burden from these expenses on Board of Prefects. We included a sample of these certificates to the Constitution of Board of Prefects, Rahula College, which we prepared and presented to the school.

Prefects’ Record Books

Prefect Record Book, which records their duties, special duties and other special remarks is a vital part of Rahula Prefect’s life. So far it was prepared by prefects themselves. We also needed a properly organized prefect book for our Granum Award process. So In 2016, we introduced this well organized Prefects’ Record Book for Rahula Prefects and we’ve been providing every prefect these record book since. This helps not only to us, to Rahula academic staff to get to know about Prefects’ progress and Rahula Prefects to reflect on their own progress.

Leadership Training Programmes

We always want to strengthen our younger generation with knowledge and experience. That’s why since 2014 we have organized leadership programmes for Rahula Prefects, annually. These leadership programmes comes in two types, activity based 2 or 3 day camps for Apprentice Prefects and lecture based leadership programmes for entire Prefect Board.

We’ve contacted some special Old Prefects and Old Boys as resource personnel for these programmes.
